The posse was founded in 1965 under the inspiration and guidance of Sheriff Malcolm Beard as a non profit organization.  Our membership is comprised of a combination of volunteers and full time sworn deputies.  The majority of our posse is civilians that donate their time to support the numerous functions and services we provide for the community. 

The posse assists the Sheriff's Office in crime scene evidence and lost person searches in wooded areas where off road vehicles cannot access.  The Posse assists local agencies during natural disasters, community awareness demonstrations at area elementary schools and public relations work through participating in area parades.

All horses are privately owned by each posse member.  Each member is responsible for all costs such as housing, feed/hay, farrier, veterinary costs and tack.  There are no funds taken from any donations received for our private use.  All posse members perform without compensation.
